"Psalm 23 for Bassists"
The Lord is my drummer, I shall not rush.
He maketh me to lay out in tasteful places
He leadeth me beside cool meter changes
He restoreth my "one".
Yeah man, though I read through the trickiest
of charts, I will fear no train wrecks.
For You are with it.
Your ride and Your snare, they comfort me
You setteth up a solo for me
In the presence of mine guitarists.
You annointeth my lines with drive.
My groove overfloweth.
Surely good feel and swing will follow me
through all the tunes of each set.
And I will dwell in the pocket
the whole gig long.
Amen.

Ian is the
founding member of Eye Rhyme. He assembled the
original members of the band for the recording of
their first album, "Life Control". He
single-handedly wrote all the material for that
album, and ninety-nine percent of the material on
the second album, "Soul".
Ian studied
music at Wilfred Laurier University. There, he
majored in pipe organ and composition. He graduated
from Laurier in 1991 with a B.A. degree in
music.
Ian is
extremely creative and dedicated. He has gone
above-and-beyond the cause to book and promote the
band. One might argue that it was Ian's persistence
that brought Eye Rhyme to where it is today. He
demonstrates excellent teamwork abilities, as well
as strong leadership skills.
Of course,
Ian is also an outstanding bass player, always
creating hard-grooving, yet tasteful lines. His
vocals always demonstrate a strong melodic sense
with feel and energy.
In addition
to his accomplishments with Eye Rhyme, Ian is a
very experienced musician. He spent several years
playing bass for country artist Valerie Sherman, he
performed as a sideman for pop artist Johnathan M.
alongside Saga guitarist Ian Crichton, and he has
also performed and written for bands such as
Pigskin and pSIGMA.
Ian teaches piano and bass
students, plays organ at a church on Sundays, and owns his own
recording studio Small
Dog Studio.
In 1998, he
was nominated for the Kitchener Arts Council Award
for Music.
